Nicole Scherzinger has dropped her biggest hint yet that she might not return to The X Factor next year.

Speaking to The Mirror, she revealed that she often feels lonely due to her packed schedule and said that she needs to take time off sometimes.

"If I don't come back it's not because I don't love it," she said. "It's because I'm a singer first. Every artist needs that time out to reflect."

Nicole added that she finds it very difficult to balance her career with her personal life, saying "it's hard".

"It can be lonely," she said. "I'm always on the road, always by myself. I think anybody in this industry feels lonely."

Nicole, who is in a relationship with tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, said that she has been going through a lot of changes lately.

"This has been a very transitional year for me – career-wise and personally," she said.

"Anybody who's successful in what they do is making sacrifices."

The singer also defended her decision to have rapper Stormzy join her as guest judge at her Judges' House stage in South Africa.

"He's credible for me," she said. "I love that he's not what people thought I'd have as a guest judge.

"I wanted someone relevant and current. It doesn't take away his credibility. It's showing another side of you."

Nicole, who has judged three series of the X Factor, has not yet signed up to take part next year, although Louis Walsh confirmed this week that he and Sharon Osbourne will both be back.

Simon Cowell is also reportedly keen to get Cheryl back on the show, with her boyfriend Liam Payne claiming Simon is "desperate" to have her on the judging panel next year.

Nicole chose her final three Overs acts for the X Factor live shows this weekend, with Tracy Leanne Jefford, Matt Linnen and Kevin Davy White all making the cut.

The final 12 acts through to the live shows were confirmed tonight, after all the judges picked their favourites.

But don't forget about those Wildcards...

The X Factor live shows begin on Saturday (October 28) at 8.20pm on ITV.
