If true, this has the potential to be SCHER-MA-ZING.
The Sun has today reported that none other than Nicole Scherzinger is in talks to play the lead role of Elphaba in the big-screen version of the musical ‘Wicked’.
Yes, THAT Wicked – the one that everyone goes down to London and has a ‘big night out with the girls’ for.
The film is set to be released in December 2019 – and predicted to become a huge hit given the popularity of the stage version, as well as its signature song ‘Defying Gravity’.
The role of Elphaba (the ‘bad witch’, who’s actually quite good, to be honest) was made famous by Idina Menzel, and the upcoming role is said to be one of the most coveted in Hollywood right now.
After proving her abilities in a string of performances recently -including the West End version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cats’ – Nicole is now rumoured to be one of the front-runners.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Nicole has held early discussions with film bosses who think she’s perfect for the role of Elphaba.
“She’s been eyeing a career in acting for some time now, so playing the lead role in a such a popular musical would be a major coup.
There’s still some way to go before a final decision but she’s very much in the frame for the job.”
No other cast-members have been announced for the role yet, but given Nicole’s history on screen and stage – as well as the cracking pair of lungs she’s got on her – we think she could just pull this one off.
