Nicole Scherzinger on why she loves breakfast food and spicy crisps

You have to hand it to her: Nicole Scherzinger seriously puts in the work with her fitness to look - and feel - as strong and sensational as she does.

'I like to switch it up and try new things, but most recently, I’ve just been pretty consistent with more HIIT workouts,' she tells WH.

More specifically, the actress and singer enjoys cardio HIIT and HIIT with weights. A typical routine for her might look like running on the treadmill for a few minutes before doing a circuit of weights, then doing some more cardio before completing another circuit. 'I feel like I get more results that way.'

When it comes to fitness, Nicole’s motto is: consistently try new things. 'I love doing everything from SoulCycle spinning and climbing to boxing and dance cardio,' she says. 'It’s really good to always keep your body guessing and to always switch it up.'

However, Nicole isn’t hitting those HIIT circuits as hard right now (we're with you on the summer lull, Nicole). 'It’s all about balance and moderation,' she explains. A-blood-men to that.

Rather than following her usual fitness schedule, which involves working out anywhere between three and six times a week, Nicole sometimes opts for long outdoor walks. 'You can’t grind all the time,' she says, adding - 'you need that balance.'

Indeed, most recently, the 45-year-old singer has been on holidaying with her fiancé and taken to Instagram to showcase her very large selection of bikinis. She's also been showcasing the foods she uses to fuel herself, calling food her 'love language' while sharing videos of incredible looking plates of pasta, pizza and fresh fish. But what nutrition tips she swear by?

Nicole does periods of intermittent fasting (but that doesn't mean you should)

Of late, Nicole’s also been taking a slower approach when it comes to her diet and eating schedule. 'I’m not on the grind as much with my workouts, so I’m intermittent fasting,' she tells WH.

Now, intermittent fasting can have many benefits for your overall health - from your energy levels to your digestion. Some research suggests that intermittent fasting - when deployed as part of a healthy, balanced diet can even encourage cellular repair and lower inflammation.

Fasting is categorically not for everyone. If you have a history of or an active eating disorder, are pregnant, underweight or find periods of deliberate fasting to be triggering, please do not undertake any sort of fasting regimen.

Owing to the way it lowers insulin levels, intermittent fasting can also be a useful took for weight loss and maintenance.

But while many sing its praises, it's not for everyone. People with an eating disorder (or who have previously struggled with one), are pregnant or underweight should avoid this eating routine.

And if you try it and realise it triggers some unhealthy behaviours around food? Sack it off. Remember it's important to keep our relationships with food as healthy as we do our bodies.

Back to Nicole - she does an overnight fast, so her AM is liquid fuelled - she rates tea brand Vadham's Mint Melody Green tea or their Turmeric Spiced Herbal variety.

Nicole gets those breakfast foods in, though

Nicole will usually have breakfast for lunch. 'I love eggs and bread with a side of smoked salmon or some ham,' she shares. De-lish. She'll also add a side of sliced cherry tomatoes - - 'they're just my favourite!' - and some avocado.

Okay - we're big advocates of a hearty breakfast at WH but this brunch sounds like it's worth the wait.

Nicole loves snacks on veg, nuts...and spicy crisps

As a self-proclaimed snack aficionado, she has quite a few go-to's: raw almonds, cherry

'If I have some frozen fruit laying around, I’ll make an oat milk smoothie,' she says. 'Sometimes I’ll put turmeric powder in it, which is delicious and anti-inflammatory.' Levelling up with the adaptogens - we love to see it.

When Nicole is craving something savoury, she follows them tastebuds. 'I love chips,' she says - translation: crisps. (Although sort of love the idea of Nicole in a chippy. We digress.)

Nicole loves salt and vinegar flavoured potato chips and Cheetos. But she'll pass on those healthier imitations of her favourite snacks. 'It's real Cheetos or the fire hot ones.'

Nicole believes in making her meals well-balanced

This could be a grab-and-go salad with a good mix of protein and slow-release carbohydrates. Or, at home, she likes to keep it simple: a meat or protein, grain, and veggies.

'It’s usually like chicken and rice, fish and rice, and then a side of vegetables,' she says. Or a plate of pasta - Nicole opts for the gluten-free variety.

Nicole loves pudding

Nicole loves a sweet treat to finish her meal. Her favourites consist of anything with cream cheese icing. 'I love red velvet cake with cream cheese icing; carrot cake with cream cheese icing...' she says. And? 'I love muffins and cakes.'

To get the sweet hit without the sat fats and sugar, she'll have some dark chocolate - she loves varieties with almonds and sea salt.

After dinner—and dessert—Nicole will usually end her day with a warm cup of herbal tea. Her current bedtime tea of choice is Vadham's Hibiscus Rose Herbal Tea, which you can find in her new assorted gift collection. 'I love it because I’m Hawaiian, and it makes me think of home.'

Nicole’s also a fan of mint tea, which she argues you can have at any time of day. 'There’s never not a right time for mint tea. That’s my motto.'

Well, quite. Gotta stay hydrated.
