Nigella Lawson, the renowned celebrity chef, has praised a simple two-ingredient dish as the 'food of the gods', which she often prepares for herself when dining alone at home. The culinary queen, 64, revealed that eggs with homemade chips is one of her favourite recipes when cooking for one.

Speaking to The Times, she said: "These days, dinner for one at Casa Lawson ranges from anchovies on toast to pancetta and lentils, and eggs with homemade chips, aka 'the food of the gods'. I am a great believer in deep frying. It's nightmarish if you're doing it for huge numbers but doing it for one takes the fear out of it. I relish the evenings I get to eat by myself at home.

"Sure, I enjoy hosting lavish meals for big groups and in the office I am a feeder. But eating for one at home means the only person you have to satisfy is yourself.

"You get to choose the meal, the location (I am guilty of sofa eating too) and above all the portion size," the Express reports.

Nigella, who has two adult children with the late journalist John Diamond and was previously married to art collector Charles Saatchi, confessed that despite her status as a kitchen icon, she doesn't particularly enjoy cooking for large groups.

She added: "I think that what people often feel is that cooking for one is a huge effort. But I think what often feels like an effort when you are nervous hosting doesn't feel like a big effort when you're alone because the fear is taken out. There is no sense of embarrassment.

"I find it quite difficult to taste my own food properly when I am eating with lots of people. You hone in too much on what you don't like about it.

"I now feel so used to cooking for myself. I can go up to a very big number but I am not used to cooking for four as much."

Nigella also confessed that the best part of dining out is the ability to "order a bit of everything from the menu" - a luxury not afforded when dining alone at home.

This revelation follows Nigella's admission of an unusual bedroom habit, which could potentially have some unhealthy consequences. She disclosed to The Times that she will "eat absolutely anything in bed, except something that needs a knife and fork. It has to be either fingers or a spoon."

Sleep expert Dr Deborah Lee warned of the risks associated with this habit, stating: "Pizza boxes, leftover takeaway chicken, and the like can attract flies, ants, and even cockroaches.

"Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a harmful bacteria often found on cockroaches and their droppings, can even end up on your pyjamas or clothing. Imagine transferring this onto your bed!"
