Nigella Lawson says she's 'with the north' on the correct way to eat mince pies

Nigella Lawson has let slip that we've all been eating mince pies and Christmas cake wrong and reckons it's due to a north-south divide. Discussing festive food quirks during an episode of The One Show last Christmas, the celebrity chef enlightened then-host Jermaine Jenas on the proper way to enjoy festive treats.

Jenas broached the topic, saying: "At the top of the show we teased the fact that you say that Christmas cake, that everyone loves on Christmas Day, should be eaten with cheese." Lawson didn't skip a beat, stating: "Quite right. There is a bit of north-south divide, and even though I am a soft southerner, I am very much with the north on this."

Continuing, she made a further point that "cheese works well with mince pies too". Co-presenter Alex Jones asked which cheese makes the ideal pairing with Christmas cake, and Nigella said: "Tangy, you want something sharp and crumbly." Her recommendations? A Lancashire or Wensleydale.
