With many of us taking up baking as a way to while away the hours (I never knew there were so many hours in a day before…), the nation is currently on the lookout for any tips and hacks for making their cakes and bread spectacular. Or, more realistically, just edible with the very few ingredients on offer right now.

Maybe you want to make bread in your slow cooker? Or perhaps you fancy having a go at making it in your microwave? Although, we probably wouldn’t advise that one as much…

And if you fancy doing it in the old-fashioned way, Nigella Lawson has a handy tip for making your homemade bread even more delicious.

Knowing full well that Britain is making more bread at home than usual right now, the TV chef and cookbook author tweeted: “Quick message to all those making bread at the moment. Keep the water you’ve cooked potatoes or pasta in. It will help the bread’s texture and rise.”

Well I never. That’s our three favourite carbs all in one tweet!

Nigella went on to clarify that you should “taste it before adding though. If very salty, dilute it with fresh water and, obviously, leave any salt in recipe out.”

She also shared a great bread recipe of hers that uses just four ingredients and needs no, erm, kneading.

Nigella Lawson to the rescue (again)!
