In central Nigeria, the "breadbasket" of Africa's most populous country, many farmers are fleeing the violence in rural areas, with disastrous consequences for crops and the already high cost of food. Because of the insecurity in Benue State, Nigeria can no longer produce enough food to feed its own population.
