Donald Trump's Aberdeenshire golf course is hosting a special night golf event, giving players the chance to enjoy burgers and beers and a round of golf under the night sky.

Night golf has become a popular concept in slightly warmer climates, in particular the USA, Spain and Dubai, with the game played in pitch black.

The Balmedie resort will now give north-east players the chance to play under the stars.

Trump International Golf Links is trying its own take on night golf, with two events taking place this week on Thursday January 16 and Friday January 17 called Night Golf, Burger & Beer.

Owned by the US president-elect, the course is set to be transformed with glow sticks on fairways and lights to illuminate each hole. Players will also be given special glow-up golfs balls.

An advert on Trump International's website reads: "Tee off under the stars on the ‘World’s Greatest Links Course’.

"Get a group together and play five holes of the championship links course with a neon glow ball guided by neon glow sticks through the ‘Great Dunes of Scotland’ to illuminated fairways, flags and holes.

"Prepare to swing, savour, and sizzle! Thursday, January 16 - Tee times from 4.30pm to 7pm. Friday, January 17 - Tee times from 4.30pm to 7pm."

Golf fans shared their doubts over the event however, with tickets priced at £75 per person, including a burger and a beer as part of the package.

Players will only get to try out five holes as opposed to the traditional 18 or nine, but with summer rates reaching £435, it could be considered a bargain.

One fan however questioned: "Will it be on full greens if it's frosty? Might be worth £20 but never £75." Another said: "£75 to play five holes in the dark in the dead of winter? Seriously?"

And a third said: "Did it once in Turkey in the relative warmth. Never again. Why on earth would anyone want to play five holes of a great course that you won't actually see. Aberdeenshire in January? No thanks."
