Valentine's Day is just around the corner and happy couples have already started making plans. If you want to head out for a romantic meal with your loved one on 14 February, but have no clue which restaurant to make that all-important reservation in — don't worry, we've got you covered.

"Àclèaf has been on my list for a while, but as it's a little out of town, I've delayed going for some time. I can honestly say, that was an utter mistake. Don't delay! I've eaten around the world, in many a premium restaurant for special occasions, and I was blown away by the food, the service and the experience."

Fine-dining restaurant, Àclèaf, rounds off Plymouth's Michelin recommended, AA Rosette award-winning trifecta ( Fletcher’s and Barbican Kitchen are the other two).

It has been touted as the "ultimate fine dining restaurant" by AA . Located in the spectacular 16th-century Boringdon Hall, this restaurant is the perfect backdrop for a cosy and sophisticated date.

"I can whole heartedly say it was the most amazing food I have ever been served. I have eaten all round the world in Michelin star restaurants and I would return here over all them."

This Michelin recommended restaurant and proud recipient of two Rosettes by The AA Guide is an all-time Plymouth heavyweight. Just around the corner from the Theatre Royal, the Michelin Guide calls it a "warmly run restaurant (that) is so much more than a convenient spot to eat in before curtain-up."

This eponymously named restaurant's local chef-owner caters to all tastes and each dish is carefully prepared and well thought out. Be sure to book in advance.

Uniquely located in the conversion of a 1930's swimming pool changing area, this hidden wine and tapas bar is, hands down, home to some of the best uninterrupted views of Plymouth Sound and Drake's Island. Authentic Spanish chefs produce fresh, delectable food. What’s more – the restaurant has a massive selection of Spanish wines, most of which can be bought by the glass.

We have found our go to now for great quality food served up by friendly professional staff . I have to say I am extremely fussy when it comes to Indian food, but shapla just ticks all the boxes. Definitely recommend.”

Shapla Balti serves authentic Indian cuisine, and their speciality lies in their traditional Punjabi, Kashmiri, and Bengali dishes. This modest Indian restaurant has food that’s packed with flavour and the warmest hospitality.

"Needless to say that you would go to this restaurant for Italian cuisine. Undoubtedly, this restaurant is severely underestimated. The food is top notch and their service is impeccable. Together, the ambience is pure Italian. Belissimo is an understatement."

This cosy Italian restaurant is a firm favourite amongst the people of Plymouth. You can’t go wrong with Positano for date night. The joint is known for serving authentic Italian cuisine at reasonable prices and in generous portions. From pastas and fresh pizzas to meats and fish, Positano serves top-tier food.

This independent, family-run business was established in 2018 and has since accumulated a swarm of loving patrons. Run by the two-person, husband and wife team of Carl (chef) and Jackie (front of the house), the cafe is named after their adorable dog, Daisy, who graces the joint with her elating presence every once in a while. With an extensive, freshly cooked menu – be sure to give their homemade cakes, eggs, scones and afternoon teas a try.

"From the moment we stepped foot in Dunya, I knew it was going to be a great dining experience. Greeted with a warm smile and immaculate décor, it has a cosy feel. The service and food was fantastic, I honestly couldn’t pick any fault. I can see why people rave about this place. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed."

Traditional Mediterranean and Turkish dishes with a twist are on offer at Dunya, one of Plymouth’s beloved food joints. With a creative menu, everything at Dunya is packed with flavour. You can’t go wrong with this spot, especially for a romantic date. Needless to say you should book in advance, especially if you’re heading there on Valentines Day.

“ Have come to Fig Tree four times, each time the service has been exceptional, and the food delicious. I have done Trust The Chef, which was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. Have always left with a full stomach as well. The price for the food and experience is great value.”

The Fig Tree @ 36 has been in the Michelin Guide recommendations in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and for good reason. The restaurant was also awarded an AA Rosette, which it maintained for three consecutive years. This locally-inspired restaurant has been the recipient of several awards , even scooping up the top honour of Best Restaurant in Devon. "Blown away by the standard of service and insanely epic food. Went for a family birthday and we all had the three-course meal. Genuinely the best food I’ve had when eating out in Plymouth for several years. Prices definitely worth what you get."

Another Michelin recommended, AA Rosette awardee, Barbican Kitchen housed in the famous Plymouth Gin Distillery, was established in 2006 and has since earned the reputation of being a Plymouth favourite. The eatery sources fresh local meats, vegetables, and top quality fish and operates under the aim of delivering "fresh local food at a realistic price."
