Nissan Frontier Tarmac Concept Is a Street Truck Designed for Drifting
The Nissan Frontier Tarmac concept is a lowered street-truck version of Nissan's mid-size pickup focused on drifting.
The Tarmac adds a NISMO cold-air intake, a custom NISMO exhaust system, and a supercharger to push the V-6 beyond the 400-hp mark.
The concept uses new-for-2025 Afterburn Orange paint along with a bevy of carbon-fiber pieces and a new widebody design.
The standard Nissan Frontier is your everyday run-of-the-mill mid-size pickup that offers the practicality and ruggedness many truck buyers are after. The Frontier Tarmac concept Nissan just unveiled for this year's SEMA show changes up that formula. Rather than going for durable practicality, the Tarmac concept is a lowered street truck that focuses on style and performance.
The truck was built in collaboration with Forsberg Racing, which Formula Drift legend Chris Forsberg leads. According to Nissan, the concept is based on the 2025 Frontier PRO-4X trim, and the build took about six months to complete.
To transform the Frontier into a proper drift vehicle, Nissan and Forsberg kept the standard 3.8-liter V-6 but added a water-cooled supercharger as well as a prototype NISMO carbon-fiber cold air intake and custom cat-back exhaust system. The end product generates an extra 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque, totaling 440 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque—all of which is sent to the rear wheels.
Drift performance isn't just about the go-juice, though. The Tarmac also adds 15-inch floating two-piece rotors and mounts that use the same brake calipers as the Z NISMO. The rear wheels feature two calipers, one for normal stopping power and the other connected to a custom hydraulic hand brake designed for drifting. For shoes, the Tarmac wears a set of 275/40R-20 Yokohama Advan V107 tires at the front and a set of 315/35R-20 Yokohama Advan V107 tires at the rear.
There are tons of visual changes as well, with Nissan using carbon fiber everywhere from the hood to the fenders, the roof cap, and the tonneau cover, among other locations. The interior shows off a carbon-fiber-trimmed steering wheel and two front Recaro seats finished in a retro upholstery pattern. The whole thing rides on a custom NISMO suspension setup that includes a four-six-inch lowering kit with adjustable coil-overs and remote reservoirs.
