No public firework displays are being planned by East Ayrshire Leisure this year.

The leisure trust confirmed there would not be a display one year after the controversial fireworks at Dean Castle and Country Park were cancelled.

Animal welfare charity the SSPCA criticised the Fawkes Festival held on Sunday, October 29, last year before a second display was cancelled following threats made to staff.

Police Scotland investigated the threats but found no criminality.

Following the event, the leisure trust refused to rule out holding fireworks events at Dean Castle and Country Park again.

However, following an enquiry from Ayrshire Live, they have now confirmed there will be no public displays this year.

A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Leisure said: “There won’t be a fireworks display this year, but we do have a number of other bigger events coming to East Ayrshire over the next few months like Sinister Circus, Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Starry Nights and Live at The Big Top.”
