A Nottingham community centre has been forced to dispel a rumour that it had banned outsiders from visiting. Beechdale Community Centre said it had been targeted by misinformation claiming that staff had barred people from outside of the suburb coming to the Ambergate Road facility.

A representative for the centre, posting to Facebook, explained the false claim had upset people and asked for those spreading it to stop. "We would like to address a rumour that has been brought to our attention. It's been stated that we have banned individuals living outside of the Beechdale area from accessing the Beechdale Community Centre and its projects. This is completely false."

The spokesperson added that "everyone is welcome" at the community centre, which also provides service users with a food bank. "We proudly operate with the ethos of celebrating all cultures and bringing communities together," they said.

The centre invited people to visit for a cup of tea, or join in with other upcoming activities. "Let's continue building a positive and inclusive community together," the team behind the centre concluded.
