'No Siesta': La Palma Volcanic Eruption Forms New Stream of Lava at Night

The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma continued to erupt on Thursday, September 30, releasing new streams of lava, according to a local observer.

This footage, filmed by Twitter user @efadi_LP, shows the volcano’s activity on Thursday night. “The volcano … knows no siesta,” he wrote in a tweet.

The second clip, taken 30 minutes after the first, shows a new stream of lava, he wrote.

Spain’s Guardia Civil police force warned people within 2.2 miles (3.5 km) of the site to stay inside “given the possibility of harmful gas” as molten lava from the volcano hit the water. Credit: Idafe.com via Storyful
