Noel Fielding has revealed that a certain rock god deserves credit for him landing the presenting gig on the new Great British Bake Off.

The Mighty Boosh comic is partnering with Sandi Toksvig as the baking competition's new 'Mel and Sue' when it moves over to Channel 4 - admittedly an intriguing job choice for the unpredictable comedian.

During a premiere screening on Monday (August 21), Noel outed himself as a massive Bake Off super-fan when asked what drew him to the high-profile TV job.

"I love the show. I was a fan of the show," he explained. "One of my friends, Serge [Pizzorno] from Kasabian, said, 'Oh, you should get on this. It's great. I love it'.

"I watched [Bake Off] back to back and really enjoyed it. I just thought, this is such a nice vibe and I really loved it. I didn't bake or anything, I was just a big fan.

"When they asked me to do it, I was really staggered. I just thought, this is too big an opportunity [to pass up]. Also, I really wanted to work with Sandi because I think Sandi was already in. I thought we'd be good together comedically."

"That just shows what different worlds we come from," Sandi interrupted. "I'm not really sure who Serge from Kasabian actually is."

What? Here we figured that Sandi Toksvig was rocking out to West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum on the set of QI

Prior to Monday night's screening, the world breathed a sigh of relief when Noel cleared up some worrying quotes that made it sound like he hated cake. (GASP!)

"I get more work when I'm thinner, so I can't put on weight. No one likes a tubby gut is what I'm saying," he was quoted as saying. "It's not that I don't like cake, I have a very sweet tooth."

The long-awaited Great British Bake Off will make its long-awaited Channel 4 debut on Tuesday, August 29. Watch the slightly creepy first trailer below:
