Police force lists 55 'blatant' lockdown breaches including Bristol man who 'liked walking his dogs in Norfolk'

Norfolk Police has released a list of 55 “blatant” lockdown breaches, including a man who travelled from Bristol to Norfolk to walk his dog.

In a statement, the force said it had issued 55 fines between Friday and Sunday last weekend for breaking coronavirus lockdown measures.

It comes after the National Police Chief’s Council announced on Thursday police forces across the country have issued more than 8,000 fixed penalty notices for lockdown breaches in the last few weeks.

Coronavirus cases are still rising in 18 areas of the UK as the country's death toll hit more than 100,000.

Meanwhile, Sage has suggested that 228,000 more people could have died this winter if the government hadn't acted.

Norfolk Police said on Friday that it fined six people from different households found at a house party celebrating a birthday last weekend.

It also issued fixed penalty notices to six people from four different households who gathered for a BBQ to celebrate a child’s birthday.

The force said that they also fined a man who travelled from Bristol to Norwich "because he liked walking his dogs in Norfolk”.

A man from Cardiff was also penalised after travelling to Norwich to visit friends, as was three people who travelled from Coventry to visit friends in the country.

Fines were also issued to people gathered outside a property, some of whom had come from Bury St Edmunds.

More fines were handed out to people from different households found sitting in a car together at Gorleston.

ACC Julie Wvendth from Norfolk Constabulary said: “These are all clear breaches – a blatant disregard of the regulations which are there and in place to protect us.

“Since the announcement of a third lockdown we’ve been open about our approach becoming more robust. I am confident that our approaches have been and still remain at the right level.

She added: “The risks are well known and people know the rules. We have to take this into account and reflect it in our policing approach.

“We all have a part to play in this pandemic. In policing, our aim at any time, pandemic or not, is to keep the public safe and prevent harm so we will continue to enforce the rules when we need to.”
