The actor won the TV award for Best Leading Actor over the weekend for his starring turn as Connell Waldron in the hit BBC Three drama.
Speaking after his win during Sunday night's (June 6) ceremony, Mescal told Digital Spy and other press about how much the role had meant to him, giving a shout-out to "best friend" Edgar-Jones.
"It's a role that has now – not because of this – but the last year it's a role that totally changed my life and has given me an opportunity to continue doing the job that I love," he replied.
"It has introduced me to my best friend, Daisy, and [director] Lenny [Abrahamson] and people who I am obsessed with. And Connell himself is somebody that has a huge part… I don't know what to say, he's hugely important to me."
Mescal also praised the Marianne Sheridan actress during his acceptance speech, saying: "I want to dedicate this to Daisy, who is the best scene partner and one of the best people I know."
While chatting backstage, the actor also addressed the possibility of a second season of the show, saying: "I would love to do a Normal People season 2.
"I would work with Daisy again in a heartbeat and regardless of working with her again, I'm just really excited to see her so we can see each other again. It would be great.
"At the moment, there's nothing at all in the pipeline so I don't want to be quoted on 'maybe there's going to be a [Normal People] season 2'. There's nothing at the moment."
Normal People is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
