'Normal practice' for East Ayrshire Council to offload cardboard at roadside
East Ayrshire Council have said it is “normal practice” to leave cardboard by the roadside before picking it up if there are “high volumes” to collect.
Refuse workers had been spotted offloading cardboard from recycling lorries outside Robertsons Joiners on Crofthead Road in Kilmaurs this morning.
Local residents were confused by the move and John Robertson took to Facebook to complain.

He said: “Just in case people walking past our workshop this morning are wondering what’s going on, this has nothing to do with Robertsons Joiners.
“The recycling truck stopped outside for five minutes and I came out to see this lot lying.
“It's actually the council recycling guys that off loaded this lot. Hopefully, they remember to come back and get it.”
East Ayrshire Council confirmed that the recyclables had been collected after lying at the roadside for hours due to “an issue” with the larger recycling lorry.
A spokesperson for the council said: “East Ayrshire Council can confirm that due to high volumes of cardboard collected in this area it is normal practice for the recycling team to set some aside in this location for a larger vehicle to collect. This ensures the most efficient use of resources.
“The cardboard is normally uplifted before 8am by the larger vehicle but due to an issue with the vehicle it wasn't collected until 11am this morning.”
