The Walking Dead has seen a LOT of change over the course of its eight seasons, with most of the original main cast members no longer in the show.

In fact, by the time we get to the recently-announced season nine, only three of them will be left: Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier) and Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon).

And Reedus has no desire at all to quit the zombie drama, telling Entertainment Weekly that he could continue with it until it ends.

"I love being on the show," he said.

"I could do this until it ended. There's part of me that really wants to bookend the show. I started the show and I want to end the show."

He added that he loves the fact that viewers have seen his character grow over time and he doesn't want that to end just yet.

Reedus said: "It's not like a movie where it wraps up in an hour and a half.

"People have seen me and Andy and Melissa grow over what will be a nine-year period when the show picks back up.

"You've seen my hair on my chin turning gray! I've never done a job like this where the fans are watching this character grow in real time.

"You very rarely get an opportunity to do that. It's a real blessing to be able to be part of something that big and has that sort of longevity. I'm still loving it."

The Walking Dead was recently renewed for a ninth season by AMC, with writer and co-executive producer Angela Kang taking over the role of showrunner.

Current showrunner Scott M Gimple has been promoted to the job of Chief Content Officer and will oversee the whole Walking Dead TV universe, which includes spin-off Fear The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is due to return for the second half of its eighth season on February 25 in the US on AMC and on Monday, February 26 on FOX UK.
