North Carolina Murder Suspect Added to FBI's Top 10 Fugitive List

The FBI added a North Carolina man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend to its list of the top 10 most wanted fugitives on Tuesday, October 24.

Alejandro Castillo, who was 17 at the time of the killing, is wanted in connection with the 2016 murder of Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le, who was 23. They had previously dated and had become acquainted while working at a Charlotte restaurant together, according to a FBI press release.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Castillo’s capture. Authorities believe Castillo crossed into Mexico and may be located in Pabellón de Arteaga or San Francisco de los Romo in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes. He may have also traveled to the Mexican states of Guanajuato or Veracruz, according to the FBI.

Investigators discovered Castillo owed the victim about $1,000 and they had agreed to meet on August 9, 2016, so Castillo could repay the loan, the FBI press release said.

At the meeting, though, Castillo had no intentions of repaying the loan and instead had the victim withdraw a large sum of money from an ATM. Authorities believe he then drove her to a remote, heavily-wooded area outside Charlotte where the victim was shot in the head. Her body was dumped in a ravine. Castillo and his new girlfriend then fled the state in the victim’s car, the FBI press release said.

Castillo and his accomplice drove to Arizona and then crossed the border into Mexico from Nogales, the FBI said. The FBI release surveillance footage of the suspect at the border crossing.
