The police car and moped collided on the North Circular Road near the junction with High Road, East Finchley, shortly before 5pm on Sunday.

The Met confirmed the officer was trying to stop the rider of the moped at the time of the crash.

The 17-year-old moped rider – who was one of a group of four mopeds – injured his leg and was taken to hospital by paramedics, police said.

A large police cordon was put in place and massive tailbacks were reported.

A Met Police spokesman added: “The moped rider has not been arrested.

The three others stopped briefly at the scene and then rode off. There was no other injury.
