A series of weather warnings have been issued in parts of the UK with heavy rain set to batter many areas in the coming days.

The Met Office has yellow weather warnings in force for rain across parts of southern England and south Wales on Monday night (July 8), and in northern Scotland on Tuesday night (July 9). Forecasters said that travel is likely to be affected by the wet weather, with delays to bus and train services and flooding on roads expected as well as some interruption to power supplies and other services.

While the warnings do not cover the North East, the region will nonetheless be hit by downpours on Tuesday, with the latest forecast predicting a largely unsettled day following a cloudy start with outbreaks of heavy rain in the early morning. Further spells of heavy and possibly thundery showers are forecast to move in during the afternoon, with breezy conditions and temperatures peaking at 19°C.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, more rain is expected on Wednesday over western hills with drier and brighter conditions elsewhere, ahead of a fresh band of rain on Thursday and a largely dry Friday with sunny spells, throughout which is will often feel breezy and cool.

Conditions over the weekend were changeable and cooler than average due to the position of the jet stream firmly to the south of the UK and low pressure in charge, which is expected to herald a spell of widely unsettled conditions for most parts of the UK, the Newcastle said. Here's what the weather forecast looks like over the next two days in Newcastle.
