North Northants received almost 2,000 noise complaints from residents last year- here's why

Almost 2,000 noise complaints were made to North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) over the last year

Noise nuisances were reported to the local authority for anything from parties, DIY noise, car alarms and even people walking and talking loudly outside.

Figures obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) showed that between September 2023 and August 2024 a total of 1,810 noise complaints had been received by the local authority. This is a slight increase from the 1,700 noise complaints made in the same period the previous year.

Kettering came in as the noisiest area with 601 complaints. Wellingborough came in second with 475 noise complaints and Corby racked up 405. In last place, people in East Northants reported 329 noise nuisances.

In Kettering and East Northants the leading complaint from residents was barking dogs. In Wellingborough and Corby boisterous hounds were pipped to the top spot by loud music.

Throughout the past year, six section 80 notices, which can be served by the local authority to stop the 'nuisance' noise by a certain date, were issued. Another six community protection notices (CPNs) which can deal with noise nuisance were also utilised by NNC.
