North Shields fire: Suspected cannabis farm found after huge blaze
An investigation is underway after suspected cannabis plants were found at a property in North Shields after a fire on Monday evening.
At around 8pm on Monday, November 25, Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a fire at a property on Nile Street, North Shields. During the incident, the fire service advised residents to keep all doors and windows closed and for members if the public to stay away from the area.
And today, Northumbria Police have released an update on the investigation into the fire. A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly after 8pm on Monday (November 25), we were alerted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to a fire at a property on Nile Street in North Shields.

"Enquiries into the cause of the fire remains ongoing. Officers remain at the scene to carry out enquiries at the property where a number of suspected cannabis plants have been found.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also said that one appliance was on-scene on Nile Street yesterday morning to dampen down the area following the recent building fire. They added: "The Service handed over the incident to our colleagues at Northumbria Police at 11.49 am on Tuesday morning (November 26)."
