North Staffordshire pub shut after landlord quits

A landlord has pulled his last pint at a North Staffordshire pub - after an 'emotional' three years. Joule's Brewery announced in March that Mat Cartwright was leaving The Butchers Arms, in Forsbrook.

Mat held his leaving party last night and hands over the keys on Wednesday. The Cheadle Road venue is now shut until at least Wednesday.

It has been a Joule's pub for the past decade.

In a social media post to drinkers, Mat said: "It has been an emotional three years. The last six to eight months have not been the highest of highs. I've learnt some big lessons in running tenancy pubs and working with breweries that I will never repeat. I wish the Butchers well in the future. I gave it my all to make it what it is today. Thank you Forsbrook."
