A town centre restaurant has shut suddenly. Stock by Feasted opened in a former travel agents on Newcastle-under-Lyme High Street earlier this year.

But it shut for good this week - with a parting shot at the Government. It was run by the team behind Feasted's Chef's Table at Spode, in Stoke.

In a social media post to diners, Stock by Feasted stated: "We are closing our restaurant on the High Street. A huge thanks to all our customers, many of whom have become friends.

"The reasons why we have closed are no secret and are affecting hospitality up and down the country. VAT has made trading impossible. This has to change for the sake of our industry and especially those independents who strive to make the high streets a better place. This has resulted in jobs being lost. We hope the Government listens."
