North Staffordshire spa shuts with immediate effect

A spa, beauty salon and bistro has shut with immediate effect. The Retreat - on Mill Street, in Leek - has blamed increased costs and falling demand for the decision.

It closed for good over the weekend. But a pop-up salon - Heaven Culture - is to operate for six months inside Getliffe's Yard, in Leek, to honour outstanding bookings, vouchers and courses.

In a statement, The Retreat said: "It is with the utmost sadness that I must inform you that The Retreat closed down on 1 June. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause and allow me to thank you for all your custom and loyalty over the years.

"There are no words that will convey our disappointment and regret that we have had to take this course of action due to massive increases in costs and falling demand. However, we hope that you will understand how difficult times have become for small businesses such as ourselves.

"I realise that this will be a massive shock and will be upsetting for many and so in order not to disappoint clients who have booked appointments and to honour The Retreat’s commitments on vouchers, we will be setting up Heaven Culture for six months. During this time, Heaven Culture will take on all the beauty bookings from The Retreat together with honouring outstanding Retreat vouchers and courses. We do hope that you will support us in this endeavour and come to us for all your beauty treatments."

It is still not clear what the future holds for Easytone customers. Laser appointments will be moved to Congleton.

The Retreat added: "Sadly the Bistro and Cottage have had to close as we do not have facilities to be able to accommodate these activities. Please do come and support us at Heaven Culture so that we continue to provide the wonderful beauty services that you have always enjoyed."
