A day-long festival which makes up a coastal music trail will be back in May with another full-on programme of acts, including indie-pop band Swim Deep; post-punksters Shame; alt-indie singer Katy J Pearson and Australian psych rockers Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

A Stone's Throw which made its debut in North Tyneside in 2022 is set to return on May 25 for another adrenaline-fuelled event. Whereas it used to take in Tynemouth venues too, this time it will be fully focused upon North Shields - and it will be helping to celebrate a very special birthday.

It is being run in association with NS 800, a North Tyneside Council-led year of celebrations to mark what will be the town's 800-year anniversary of when it was founded in 1225 as a fishing port. Festival founder Anthony Thompson, of Notion Live Events, says he is buzzing about the upcoming line-up for the third instalment of A Stone's Throw.

Also on the bill - with more festival announcements to come - will be the likes of Newcastle's Du Blonde; rockers Man/Woman/Chainsaw and indie-pop band Swim Deep. Others include Brògeal, ERNIE, Home Counties, Sun King and White Flowers

Anthony is keen to build upon the success of the previous two years which have attracted more than 100 artists, playing a range of venues from dedicated music hubs to warehouses, clubs and coffee shops. In a collaboration with the council and Go North East company, an open-top double-decker bus was also enlisted to serve the festival, transporting audiences from venue to venue while live brass bands performed on the upper deck.

The bus will be back, included in the ticket price, this year too and anyone who buys the entry wristband to the festival will be able to make use of what is set to be an even quicker service linking the festival's five host venues. These will be The Exchange 1856; King Street Social Club; Salt Market Social; Three Tanners Bank and The Engine Room.

Anthony said: "A Stone's Throw has gone from strength to strength since its launch. 2025 will see the event hone in on North Shields as part of the town’s 800th year celebrations and we're buzzing to be bringing such a high calibre set of acts to venues which typically find themselves under-utilised.

"Seeing the local community support the event has been awesome but to shine a light on the local area, by welcoming international attendees, has been immensely encouraging." For details of other acts on the programme and to book tickets see here.
