A North Wales country house and B&B have featured in the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards 2024. Plas Dinas Country House, Caernarfon, received the Wales AA Wine Award, while the Bryn Derwyn B&B in Llandudno was a finalist in the AA B&B of the Year Award.

Praising Plas Dinas the AA awards said: "Set in Plas Dinas Country House, once the family home of Lord Snowdon, The Gunroom Restaurant still displays a number of Armstrong-Jones family portraits and memorabilia. This intimate and romantic dining experience offers two sittings each night (6pm & 8pm). The monthly changing menu is designed around the seasons and uses the freshest local Welsh produce."

And commenting on the Bryn Derwyn, the AA inspector's view was: "Located in a quiet area of Llandudno, Bryn Derwen is just a short walk from the main shopping area and local restaurants. A friendly welcome is assured at this impressive Victorian house, which retains many original features such as tiled floors and fine stained-glass windows.

"Décor and furnishings highlight the historic charm of the property, which is most apparent in the sumptuous lounges and attractive dining room. A choice of individually styled bedrooms is offered, and all are equipped with many thoughtful extras."

The Restaurant of the Year of Wales 2024 is Thomas by Tom Simmons in Cardiff, which was praised for having "bags of character" and a "solid wine list". But it was the food the guide particularly highlighted with the inspector saying: "This is absolutely bang-on seasonal modern British cooking. Bread is top notch – as you might expect – Simmons owns Ground Bakery, just up the road," reports WalesOnline.

The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff city centre has been named hotel of the year in Wales, taking the mantle from Tenby's Penally Abbey. The entry says: "The Parkgate Hotel is a luxury hotel that echoes all the elegance and glamour of its historic setting, being the combination of the grand former Post Office and the city’s old County Court. The Postmaster Suite is a large conference suite, while the Telegraph Room is for private dining."

It adds: "The prime city centre location is ideal for world-class venues including the Principality Stadium, Cardiff City Stadium, Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground, Motorpoint Arena and Wales Millennium Centre. Bedrooms are a chic blend of classic-meets-contemporary luxury, from sumptuous superior rooms to the extra-special Parkgate Suites. There's also a spa and the Sorting Room restaurant, a chic spot in the heart of the city."

Simon Numphud, managing director of AA Media, said: "This incredible celebration is a true testament to the strength and innovation within our industry. The dedication and excellence demonstrated by all the hospitality teams has been nothing short of inspiring. Congratulations to all the winners, nominees, and new Rosette holders for their remarkable contributions.”
