North Wales shopping outlet goes solar with rooftop investment
A major North Wales shopping outlet has gone solar in a bid to save on its energy bills and help tackle climate change. The Tweedmill, near St Asaph, has invested in a rooftop installation.
It comes at a time when businesses have been faced with spiralling energy bills. They hired JM Renewable Solutions Ltd to put in the 600 solar panel system.
This could save the shopping park between £30K and £40K a year.
Lisa Johns, managing director at Tweedmill Shopping Outlet, said: “Solar panel installation is a crucial step towards a sustainable and eco-friendly future. By harnessing the power of the sun, we not only reduce our dependence on traditional energy sources but also contribute to a cleaner environment.

“It’s inspiring to see individuals and businesses like us embracing solar technology, paving the way for a more sustainable energy landscape. As we continue to invest in renewable energy solutions like solar panels, we take positive strides towards mitigating climate change and building a brighter, greener tomorrow.”
JM Renewable Solutions designed, supplied and installed over 600 solar panels to create a 253kW solar system. It will make an estimated annual saving of over £37,000.
Ben Musgrave, JM Renewable Solutions Ltd, Technical Director, said: “It’s great to see another prominent business in our community take action against rising energy costs by installing solar panels. After conducting a survey, it was obvious that the Tweedmill’s large roof space was ideal for solar panels and would have a huge impact on their energy bills for many years to come.
“From start to finish our experienced team designed and delivered the project on time and within budget. The Tweedmill is now generating their own clean green energy and should be proud that they’ve reduced their carbon footprint.
“The current economic climate has meant many businesses have faced hardships and it’s been great to help them find a way to become energy independent against such high energy prices. I would recommend that any business with high energy bills and a roof space or land should look at investing in renewable energy as a long-term investment or as part of their business plan.
“We’ve helped many businesses join the green revolution and fight against high energy prices by installing renewable energy products such as solar PV, battery storage, air source heat pumps and electric charge points.”
For businesses considering solar energy, a professional energy audit can help identify how much they stand to save and what system would suit their energy consumption needs.
Taking advantage of grants and government incentives for solar installations can make the initial investment more affordable while delivering significant savings over time.
Solar panels can also enhance a business's eco-credentials, appealing to environmentally conscious customers.
James Elston, renewables expert at Green Central, added: "Installing a tailored solar panel installation can significantly reduce energy costs while providing long-term sustainability benefits.
"Businesses like Tweedmill demonstrate how embracing renewable energy can lead to substantial savings and reduce environmental impact. A carefully designed solar system ensures efficiency, reliability, and a quicker return on investment."
