Northern Lights visible in North East tonight as 'ideal viewing conditions' predicted by Met Office
The Northern Lights are set to be visible in the North East tonight as 'ideal viewing conditions' have been predicted by the Met Office. According to the latest forecasts, people will have a good chance of seeing the colourful display due to the clear skies.
On X, the Met Office posted: "You might want to look up at the sky tonight because there's the chance of seeing the aurora. Clear skies for most overnight will make for ideal viewing conditions, with sightings possible across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England."
Predictions by the Met Office suggest that the Northern Lights are most likely to appear at around 3am, but sightings could be possible from anytime after it gets dark.

The following is written in tonight's space weather forecast: "The auroral oval is likely to become enhanced during the period. A coronal mass ejection (CME) is forecast to arrive at Earth Thursday night into Friday.
"Aurora sightings may become visible across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England and similar geomagnetic latitudes."
Usually, clear skies with little to no cloud cover are best for spotting the aurora, as well as being based in a dark location, where light pollution is low. People then have to look toward the northern horizon to try and catch them, as they often appear brighter through a camera than they do to the naked eye.
If you are not able to see the Northern Lights tonight, don't worry, as further opportunities for sightings could be coming in the next few weeks, with the aurora usually most active in September and October.
