A 'charming' Grade II listed hotel in Northumberland, which was built in the 1820s, has been put up for sale.

The Warkworth House Hotel is on the market with an asking price of £1,800,000.

Having been brought to the market by Christie & Co, the hotel is situated in one of Northumberland's main coastal towns, famous for its medieval castle. Warkworth is popular with tourists, features a variety of shops and cafes, and is close to the sea and the stunning landscapes of the Northumberland coast.

The Warkworth House Hotel features 14 en-suite bedrooms, as well as a bar, restaurant and breakfast room. Additionally, there is a two-bedroom cottage on site which could be used as accommodation for the owners or additional letting.

The owners, Sandra Thomas and Theresa Collins, purchased the hotel from Christie & Co back in 2012, and they are now selling as they plan to retire. Sandra said: "We have invested heavily in the hotel since we bought it 12 years ago, both cosmetically and structurally, and we feel that we have created a wonderful boutique hotel with a great reputation and healthy profits.

"The time has come for us to retire and step away from the business, which we do with a heavy heart, but we are hopeful that the new owners will enjoy their time here as much as we have."

Mark Worley, hotel director at Christie & Co, comments "Having helped Sandy and Terry buy the hotel all those years ago, and having kept in touch ever since, it is great for me to be able to help them achieve their next step.

"Hotels and hospitality businesses in Northumberland and in particular, along the coast, are in great demand and we are sure that there will be a good level of interest."
