Northumberland coastal village finally has mobile coverage as Virgin Media O2 installs mast
A coastal village in Northumberland finally has mobile coverage after Virgin Media O2 installed a mast in the area.
Craster previously had no coverage from any mobile operator, and both residents and visitors will now have a reliable signal.
The new site will provide coverage to the whole of Craster, and will also connect people visiting Dunstanburgh Castle to the north of the village.

Craster attracts over 250,000 visitors every year, and with Dunstanburgh Castle, the nearby National Trust site, also benefitting, the visitor experience will be much-improved for new people coming to the village.
With 4G coverage now in place in Craster, there will soon be new fibre lines installed that connect the area later this year as the site is upgraded, bringing faster 5G connectivity to Craster and the surrounding areas.
Virgin Media O2 worked with Atlas Tower Group to deliver the new site, which has been welcomed by the local community, including Northumberland County Council, Craster Parish Council and other key community groups.
Steven Verigotta, Director of Mobile Delivery at Virgin Media O2, said: "As part of our commitment to improving rural connectivity, we’re using innovative satellite connectivity to bring mobile coverage to Craster for the first time.
"Our investment to deliver reliable connectivity in this beautiful area will be a boon for the many visitors that come here each year, transforming their experience and improving opportunities for local businesses and residents."
Northumberland County Councillor Wendy Pattison also said: "This is a huge step for Craster and Dunstan. The improvements in connectivity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of all who live, work, and visit here.
"I’m delighted to see how this partnership has come together to create such a positive change for the community. I would also like to thank Northern Powergrid for their support."
Margaret Brooks, a resident of Craster, added: "This has truly been a labour of love for our community. The mast is more than just a symbol of progress, it’s a lifeline.
"Reliable mobile signal is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity. This project will make a real difference in the daily lives of residents, businesses, and tourists alike."
