A charity is bringing up to 15 colourful vintage buses back to the streets of Glasgow for a day of free rides.

The Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust will be reviving buses from times past for a free bus service around the West End, with a display of even more nostalgic vehicles like fire engines at the Riverside Transport Museum.

Attendees will be treated to a nostalgic series of names including Glasgow Corporation Transport, Alexander’s Midland, Central SMT, MacBraynes, and many more.

Three of Sunday’s active vehicles will be former Glasgow Corporation Vehicles which the trust cares for on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Based in the old Glasgow Corporation bus garage in Bridgeton in the East End, the trust is both a museum and valued member of the local community providing outreach opportunities to help those recovering from addictions to get back into the workforce.

Steven Booth, chairman of the GVVT, said: “This will be the first of our popular West End events since before the Covid pandemic, so we are looking forward to bringing a taste of the past back to the streets of Glasgow for everyone to enjoy.

“Come along and take a trip back in time, with sights and sounds of yesteryear. Ding-ding!”

Part of the West End Festival, the route will run every 15 minutes from the Riverside Museum in a loop around Byres Road, Hyndland, Broomhill, Anniesland, and the Botanic Gardens.

Passengers can alight at any stop on the route, simply stretch out your arm in the traditional signal until the driver stops.
