Not Him: Thousands in Recife Rally Against Presidential Candidate Jair Bolsonaro

Thousands of Brazilians protested against presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro on Saturday, September 29, following racist, misogynist and homophobic accusations against the right-wing leader.

This video shows the rally in Recife, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco. Protesters can be heard chanting “ele não,” or “not him.”

The protests came the same day Bolsonaro was released from hospital after being stabbed at a campaign rally on September 6.

The controversial congressman from Rio de Janeiro has gained support for his hardline stance on combating crime despite criticism against his views on racial and sexual equality and democracy.
