'Not a Soul' at O'Hare Pickup Area After FAA Order Causes Flight Delays Across US

An arrival pickup area at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, was empty after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a stoppage of all domestic flights on Wednesday, January 11.

Video posted by Derrick Hesser on Wednesday shows the desolate scene at a normally teeming arrival pickup zone at the Chicago airport.

Hesser said that he had “never seen O’Hare like this,” explaining that there was “not a soul because no flights were arriving” due to the “ground stop and subsequent delays.”

The FAA said that the “ground stop has been lifted” and that “normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews.” Credit: Derrick Hesser via Storyful
