'Do not travel' warning for Yorkshire as Storm Eowyn looms
Passengers are being urged "not to travel" as Storm Eowyn hits.
A Met Office amber warning for wind has been issued for parts of Yorkshire on Friday, January 24, as the storm sweeps through. Affected areas include Harrogate, parts of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax, Penistone, Scarborough.
Now, TransPennine Express (TPE) has urged passengers to not travel between Manchester, Liverpool, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow due to the storm. The amber warning means the operator fears delays and short notice cancellations.

A TPE spokesman said: "TransPennine Express (TPE) is urging customers not to travel between Manchester/Liverpool and Glasgow/Edinburgh, or on services between York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh, on Friday 24 January due to the expected gale-force winds from Storm Éowyn.
"With an amber weather warning in place any services that are able to run are expected to be affected by delays and short notice cancellations. "
Tickets on affected routes can defer their journeys or use their tickets to travel between Thursday, January 23 and Monday, January 27. Alternatively they can ask for a refund.
Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director, said, "Our top priority is the safety of our customers and colleagues. We will do everything possible to keep people moving under difficult conditions, however due to the weather warnings in place for this Friday, we are having to issue advice not to travel on two of our routes.
“We urge anyone travelling on the affected routes to reconsider their plans and to follow the guidance provided."
The Met Office amber warning, which will be in force between 6am and 9pm on Friday, means there is a chance of danger to life and injuries from flying debris and large waves in coastal areas.
A yellow warning for wind will also be in effect from 12am to 11.59pm on Friday. This warning covers most of Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, York and Hull.
Snow is also expected to hit the region, with a yellow warning in place between 3am and 12pm on Friday. Areas including Hawes and Leyburn in northern North Yorkshire are likely to be affected.
