New Nottingham bar, Tahula Tiki Shack, promises to whisk drinkers away to 'somewhere completely different'
The creative minds behind some of Nottingham's quirkiest bars have revealed plans for a new project that will transport drinkers away to "somewhere completely different" the moment they step through the door. Tahula Tiki Shack is the latest drinking and dancing concept from Fletchergate Industries, the company responsible for The Magic Garden, Penny Lane, The Blind Rabbit and The Walrus.
Work is underway to transform the premises on a Hockley side street in time for opening towards the end of November. They said it has been a "furious couple of days and progress has been crazy fast already."
A spokesman said: "With a simple mantra of ‘less stress, more tiki’ we wanted to create something beautiful, but equally as fun at the same time - the kind of place you might pop into for after-work drinks and then find yourself dancing on the tables at 2am!
"We’ve drawn influences from traditional tiki bars, leaning heavily on some of the nautical elements that often define them, as well as grungy 90's pop culture from American dive bars to really make you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere completely different the moment you step through the door.
"The cocktail menu is all about the fun side of tiki, with some really quirky and kitsch drinks all available as single serves or fishbowls, as well as our signature alcoholic slushies."
The location will be revealed soon. Earlier this week, the company posted on social media: "Nottingham, it's been a long year but excited is an understatement as we've finally got our hands on our very own little piece of Hockley."
The word tiki was first used to describe the style of the tropical islands of the South Pacific in the late 1930s. By the 1950s, it was used to describe bars.
