Nottingham board game cafe's 'last hurrah' spoilt as venue boarded up
The "last hurrah" of a board game café in Nottingham city centre has been denied after the venue was boarded up. Ludorati Café Bar, situated in Maid Marian Way, planned to hold a "huge sale" on its final weekend after it announced its sudden closure on Thursday (October 24).
However a forfeiture notice was served by the building's landlords, on Friday (October 25), denying the business access to the property. "Unfortunately it's been taken out of our hands and we've been denied a last hurrah over the weekend," Ludorati said in a Facebook post.
The venue apologised to customers who had made bookings for over the weekend, adding: "We now have no access to the reservations calendar - so some people will not get any notification about this change of situation."
Announcing the closure of the venue, which boasted a library of more than 1,000 games, the café said it was experiencing delays in financial support. It also described Nottingham as becoming an increasingly "part-time city" which was "severely impacting on Ludorati’s operation".
"We had hoped to continue to support the venue through Covid Interruption insurance claim, but to date this remains unpaid, and a separate international investment in L-technology though this has stalled at the Home Office," the venue's management said.
Ludorati, which also had an in-house escape room, had previously planned a huge sale over the weekend. "As such, we’re hoping that many of you will be able to visit us one final time over the coming days Friday 25th – Sunday 27th, as we also have a huge sale of retail and ex-library games. Thank you for the great times," it wrote on Thursday.
