Nottingham building society drops Robin Hood from logo for 'inclusivity' reasons
The Nottingham building society has dropped its iconic Robin Hood logo for "inclusivity" reasons. The Nottingham has rebranded itself as Nottingham Building Society, with a host of changes.
The organisation confirmed it will not be changing its service, but wants to better "reflect society as it is today." The business announced its new look on Tuesday, October 8, sharing an update to X, formerly known as Twitter.
It stated: "We’re excited to introduce our new brand look, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity, progress and community. For 175+ years, we’ve supported unique financial journeys and now we’re evolving to better meet your needs. Welcome to a different kind of society."
The new logo features the brand's new name, Nottingham Building Society, in bold swirly writing on a bright mint green background. A number of people have expressed their frustration with the changes.
One user commented: "Huge own goal, looks like the ‘vine’ logo! Baffling decision to get rid of such a strong and identifiable badge."
Another wrote: "I preferred the old logo. Haven't you always been evolving over the last 175 years." A third added: "Go woke go broke I will be pulling my money out asap."
Further explaining the changes, the building society states on its website: "We've mixed our rich history with a modern twist. We want to reflect society as it is today. For us, that means championing inclusivity and celebrating financial diversity. Consider it a glow-up, but for a building society, changing to make sure we're fresh and relevant for current and future members."
It continues: "Your financial needs and personal circumstances are ever-evolving. Your money goals are one of a kind. You're saving for different things, earning money in different ways, and life might not be 9-5 anymore."
