Nottingham Forest 'put on red alert' for free agent transfer as squad spot left
Nottingham Forest are said to be eyeing up free agent defender Oumar Solet. The 24-year-old is on the lookout for a new club after his contract with Red Bull Salzburg was terminated at the weekend.
And it seems he has no shortage of admirers, with the Reds among a group of Premier League teams to be credited with an interest. According to HITC, Forest have been “put on red alert” by Solet’s departure from the Austrian club. Aston Villa, Wolves and West Ham United are also said to be keen.
French outfit Marseille have reportedly “looked into a deal”, alongside Anderlecht and Inter Milan. As HITC point out, Forest are among the teams with space in their 25-man Premier League squad “for a free-agent addition”.
Solet signed for Salzburg from Lyon in 2020 and had one year remaining on his contract. The club said the decision to terminate his deal early was made “by mutual agreement”.
In a statement, they said: “FC Red Bull Salzburg and Oumar Solet have parted ways. The 24-year-old Frenchman's contract, which still had a year to run, has been terminated early by mutual agreement.
“The centre-back joined our Red Bulls at the start of the 2020/21 season from Olympique Lyon. Over his four seasons in Salzburg, Oumar Solet made a total of 106 appearances (with four goals and five assists) - winning three league titles and an Austrian cup.
We wish Oumar Solet all the best for his future!”
Solet was linked with Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window. Manchester United also reportedly “ran the rule” over him.
Forest bolstered Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad with 11 new additions before the Premier League transfer window closed on August 30. Centre-backs Nikola Milenkovic and Morato were among the new arrivals, while fellow defender David Carmo immediately headed out on loan to Olympiacos after putting pen to paper.
Following the end of the transfer window, teams were required to submit their 25-man Premier League squads before the action resumed after the international break. The Reds named just 24 senior players, with forward Emmanuel Dennis left off the list.
