Nottingham Forest told 'right' transfer choice between Santiago Gimenez and Eddie Nketiah
A former Premier League chief has claimed Nottingham Forest will pursue the signing of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as opposed to Eddie Nketiah - who has been linked with a switch from Arsenal.
Keith Wyness - who was the CEO of Everton and Aston Villa - made the claim while speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast. He said: “He’s [Santiago Gimenez] the right striker for them. There’s no doubt that they need to get some more goals in this team."
Last season, Nuno Espirito Santo's side finished fourth bottom of the goalscoring chart with just 49 strikes from 38 fixtures.
He continued, giving his thoughts on Forest’s current forward options: “Chris Wood is always going to be a good player and a great back-up, but I don’t think he’s quite the 20-25 Premier League goal striker they need to stay up. Nketiah and Gimenez are both good opportunities for Forest.”

Wood got his Premier League goals tally up and running with an instinctive finish to give the Reds the lead against Bournemouth on the league’s opening weekend before the party was ruined by a late Antoine Semenyo goal. However, after proceedings, the New Zealander cut a determined figure. “That’s what I’ll look to continue to do for the rest of the season,” he said, when speaking to Nottingham Forest’s official website.
Despite Wyness’ admission, it is still unclear if Forest will complete one or both transfers after having initial offers rebuffed by both Arsenal and Feyenoord. However, on Wednesday morning Fabrizio Romano reported that the Reds had returned with a second bid worth €30m.
If either striker were to arrive at the City Ground this summer, they would still be in for some stark competition from Wood - 14 league goals last season - plus Taiwo Awoniyi who netted six times to help Forest to safety for a second consecutive season.
