Nottingham takeaway Jimbos to reopen after two-year closure
A Nottingham takeaway that closed down more than two years ago is to return now the future looks "a bit brighter". Jimbos, which served burgers, chicken and pizzas, will start trading again on Monday November 18 after the lengthy break.
The business, opposite the Queen's Medical Centre, first opened in 2017 in Abbey Street, Lenton, staying open until 3am. It was named Fast Food Business of the Year for Nottingham in 2018 by high-end lifestyle magazine Lux, and was a finalist in the 2022 Food Awards England.
It closed in July 2022 for a mini refurbishment with the intention of reopening a couple of months later to celebrate its fifth birthday but the economy was so bleak at the time it remained closed.
Owner Ash Mehmood said the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and subsequent prices hikes made it unviable for the fast food shop to continue. "We closed due to the economic climate at the time with the rising cost of gas and electric as well as some ingredients doubling in price it became financially unsustainable. It was more cost effective to close and reopen when the economy started to get better.
"We really felt the effect of post-Covid price rises Although goods and services are still higher priced than before prices have balanced out and the future looks a bit brighter we have decided to reopen.
"We are reopening with our customer favourites and have added some new products to the menu such as mocktails and waffles as well as some new burger options with some more exciting products in the pipeline."
