The team behind a Nottinghamshire farm shop - that was gutted by a fire last year - are looking to make changes in the continued recovery from the blaze. A fire ripped through the Trinity Farm shop in Awsworth Lane, Cossall in the early hours of November 14 last year.

The fire devastated the shop and café and charred the stock inside, which had been built up in the months after the shop was first set up. However, Trinity Farm shop bounced back from the fire by reopening its café on May 11, and it has now been given permission to build an extension at the back of the existing fire-damaged structure.

Broxtowe Borough Council received the application in July and planning officers granted permission for the works to take place earlier this month. The extension will provide the family business' customers with public toilets and there will be an additional chiller and storage room.

Planning documents suggest the extension would increase the farm shop's workforce from eight full-time workers to 12 staff members. Documents submitted to the council explained that the farm shop's managers had been asked to make a planning application "following an onsite meeting discussing the fire damaged building".

Lewis Winter, managing director of the farm, explained last year that the fire had happened while the business was preparing for the busy Christmas period. A fundraiser to help the family firm get back on track raised more than £3,000.
