The now almost-desolate Essex village once visited by David Bowie and Pink Floyd
Essex is full of towns and villages that have had their five minutes of fame. Celebrities from all over the UK have visited towns and cities like Chelmsford, Chigwell and more - but this tiny Essex village rose to stardom after being visited by some huge A-list celebrities back in the 70s.
Weeley is a small village located in the Tendring district, not too far from the coast of Clacton. Weeley has a miniscule population of around 2,000 people and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and you don't have to travel far to reach the seaside too!
The village is situated on the A133 road, which connects Colchester to Clacton-on-Sea. It has its own train station despite its tiny population, and is well connected for such a small green village.
Weeley is home to a number of local businesses, including a post office, a convenience store, and a pub. The village is said to have a strong sense of community, with regular events and activities taking place throughout the year.

The Town and Village Guide describes Weeley is a peaceful and picturesque village that offers a high quality of life for its residents. This wasn't always the case, as fifty years ago over 100,000 people flocked to a huge festival in the village.
The Weeley Festival, which was held in 1971 and 1972, was attended by over 100,000 people and featured performances by some of the biggest names in music at the time. A-list celebs in attendance included Pink Floyd, The Who, and David Bowie.
The festival was a significant event in the history of British music and is still remembered fondly by many people today. Today, Weeley is a much quieter, community-led village, with all of the modern amenities one could ask for - while keeping in touch with its naturally green environment.
