You can now buy tubes of just orange Smarties

There’s nothing more nostalgic than treating yourself to a tube of Smarties, but if there’s one thing that’s always annoyed us about the sugar-coated sweets, it’s the random colour ratio in each pack.

Everyone knows that the orange flavoured ones are leagues above the rest of the colours, and yet it always feels like you’re getting short-changed with just four or five of them per tube.

If you’re the type of person who fishes through your Smarties to get your hands on the orange-flavoured ones first, we’ve got some brilliant news for you.

Nestle has relented to pleas from the public and has released an orange-only Smarties tube.

Yes, that’s right - no more savouring the handful of orange flavoured sweets each of the regular packs contains, because you’ll soon be able to munch on an entire tube of them.

Nestle says the decision is in response to escalating pressure from the public, claiming it receives around 500 letters per day asking for tubes that contain only orange Smarties.

"It simply got to the point where we had to make it happen," said Nestle spokesman Iain Beavis.

"The orange ones are the only Smarties that have their own flavour and they have their very own cult following because of that.

"The distinctive flavour also means that manufacturing them in high volume, on their own, is slightly more difficult to do given the different process and recipe required to get that orange-y taste."

The orange Smarties come after the chocolate giant launched pink-only tubes last year. Nestle also phased out its blue sweets in 2006, after complaints that the colour required artificial flavouring to achieve its vibrant hue.

The blue sweets were recently returned to the lineup with an alternative ingredient in place: spirulina, a natural algae alternative which grows in the sea.

Fancy snapping up a pack of the orange-only Smarties? The cult tubes come in 'giant' packs (150g rather than the regular 38g) and are available at Asda supermarkets for £1.38 each.
