Marks & Spencer made headlines this year with their rather unusually flavoured Winter Berries and Prosecco crisps complete with pink glitter sprinkles for extra fizz.

And now Tesco has joined the crazy crisp flavours war with a Christmas-themed variety of its own.

However, social media users don’t seem too impressed with the supermarket chain’s new Finest crisp flavour Prosecco and Elderberry.

Illustrated Lawyer posted a picture on Twitter alongside the caption: “Go home, Tesco. You’re drunk,” while Maxie advised the crisp curious to “stick to plain.”

The limited edition flavour is described by Tesco as “Sweet, delicately fragrant elderberry with the festive fizz of Prosecco.”

However, Katherine Jayne tweeted that the flavours didn’t come through.

“Can’t taste the Prosecco in Tescos finest Prosecco and Elderberry crisps,” she wrote. “Clearly not the finest #middleclassprobs.”

However, the flavour did win over some crisp fans/Twitter

But the flavour did win over some adventurous crisp lovers.

“Prosecco and elderberry crisps… weird but addictive,” admitted Jill Tate on the social networking site while Pols80 declared the flavour to be “The future!”

The latest crisp creation follows a supermarket trend which has seen a slew of fancy flavoured snacks making their way onto UK shelves.

Among the more unusual are Scottish Langoustines with Dill & Lemon and Pork, Sage and Scrumpy Cider from Marks & Spencer and Tesco’s Brie & Cranberry and Goat’s Cheese and Sticky Chilli Jam.
