NTAs 2021: Kate Garraway emotionally dedicates award win to husband Derek telling him 'Believe!'

Kate Garraway dedicated her National Television Awards to her husband Derek Draper telling him "Believe."

The Good Morning Britain presenter accepted the award for Authored Documentary for her film Finding Derek which documents her husband’s long battle with the coronavirus and how it has affected her and her children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12.

Garraway broke down in tears as she walked onto the stage and received a standing ovation from the audience.

She said: "I'll let my colleague speak while I collect myself, hang on."

Katie Price - who was nominated for the same award for her BBC documentary Katie Price: Harvey and Me was shown making a heart shape with her hands to the camera in congratulations to Garraway.

The TV presenter collected herself saying: "Thank you so much. It was hugely brave of ITV to commission this - they didn't know what they were making, if it was about bereavement or triumph and in the end it ended up being something between two.

"Thank you so much for voting, I wonder if the reason you did is because our story is your story. We've all been touched by the pandemic.

"I just want to say to all the Darceys and Billys and Dereks, whatever you're going through you're not forgotten. You want joy back, you're not forgotten.

"Most of all Derek, who should be here - Derek you're going to get the chance, believe!"

The next award was a Special Recognition honour by the NTAs to Line Of Duty.

Accepting the award for the BBC police drama, actor Martin Compston said: "This means so much we started as a wee show on Wednesday night on BBC2 and now we're the biggest drama on TV and it's all because of the fans. We don't take this for granted.
