It's official: 2018 is the year of bizarre swimwear trends.

First V-bar bikinis dominated our social media feeds, and now a second questionable beach-ready look is setting in...but you could easily have missed it.

How, you ask? Well, because you're not actually meant to see it.

Nude bikinis and cossies are the latest must-have swimwear taking over the 'gram, and whether shown off on the beach, by the pool, or simply on social media, nude swimwear has everyone doing a double take.

The risqué look was recently championed by Bella Hadid, who posted a picture of herself lounging on a boat wearing a nude two-piece. And we're not talking about a subtle blush hue, we're talking exact skin-tone colour.

However, her sartorial statement was no accident; a plethora of fashionistas are opting for "nakey, nakey, nakey" (to quote Rihanna) beach looks this summer.

Nunude and Nudewear have created pieces to suit a wide range of skin tones and sizes.

Both brands promote diversity, inclusivity and body positivity, with the latter giving an interesting extra insight into what they also hope to achieve through their nude range.

On its website, the South African brand explains, "We design and create swimwear with women in mind, constantly exploring the multiplicity of the feminine form".

"Nude Wear aims to explore different aspects of modern femininity. We encourage and invite our customers to break glass ceilings and help us reconstruct hegemonic beauty standards."

Empowering and Instagram-approved? This is one flesh-hued fashion trend we may be able to get onboard with.
