Nuisance biker who led police on pursuit through Derbyshire streets avoids jail
A young man has been convicted of a series of traffic offences after leading officers on a pursuit through a Derbyshire village centre. Officers from Swadlincote Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team responded to reports of anti-social behaviour, disorder and motorbikes being ridden dangerously last summer - and have now corrected a "common misconception" that they won't engage in incidents involving bikes.
During one of these incidents, a bike failed to stop and was pursued by officers. Police say it was being ridden dangerously and on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic in High Street, Newhall, leading to the arrest of Tyler Bent.
The 22-year-old, of Alma Road, Newhall, was charged with a number of offences, including: Fail to stop for police, dangerous driving, fail to wear a helmet, no insurance, no licence and fail to display registration. He was given a prison sentence of five months at Derby Crown Court, suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and community service, to be completed over 12 months, and must attend 25 days of rehabilitation activities. He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: "It’s a common misconception that officers will not engage in such incidents involving such bikes. This is not the case and over the few months, we have targeted and continue to take action on nuisance bikers."
