Number of deliberate fires in North East of Glasgow drops significantly
The number of deliberate fires set in the north east of Glasgow has dropped by almost 50% according to official reports.
A document presented to the Shettleston area partnership last week highlighted that during the first quarter of 2024/25 Scottish Fire and Rescue Services responded to a total of 753 incidents in the North East Sector of Glasgow.
Figures revealed that between April 1 and June 30, 2024 there were 240 fires reported compared to 429 fires during the same period the previous year.

The report confirmed that quarter one saw an overall reduction of 32% in incidents attended in the North East compared to last year with a decrease of 48% of deliberate fires set from 267 to 140.
During the meeting, Colin Hooper, a Scottish Fire and Rescue representative, said: “The report shows a clear picture of some of the reductions in the incidents we have been attending across the sector.
“There have been 189 less fires, 22 less special services and 164 less false alarms which overall leads to a 32% reduction in incidents attended since last year’s quarter one.

“That pattern just continues across all elements and I think we have got it broken down quite nicely in terms of the deliberate fires - again there are significant reductions, almost 50%.
“There was a 38% reduction in accidental fires while dwelling fires and non domestic fires are down quite significantly. I am pleased to say that we have had no fire fatalities this quarter.
“We have had nine casualties as a result of house fires. We are seeing an increase in special service incidents as our role diversifies and that includes, flooding, water rescue and animal rescue.”
